The Prince’s Trust was founded in 1976 by the expedition patron, HRH The Prince of Wales to help 14-30 year olds realise their potential and transform their lives by providing them with practical support including training, mentoring and financial assistance.
They focus their efforts on those who've struggled at school, been in care, been in trouble with the law, or are long-term unemployed. Their message “Yes You Can” encourages young people overcome barriers and get their lives working.
The Barclays Capital Ultimate North Expedition is aiming to raise £25,000 which would help to pay for six disadvantaged young people in the Tower Hamlets area of London to start up their own businesses.
HRH The Prince of Wales recently wished the team well at Clarence House, saying, "I just wanted to wish Tom and his team every possible good wish for success in their bold adventure. The North Pole, on foot, is certainly an elusive and difficult prize, but I am sure they will rise to this exceptional challenge. As President of The Prince’s Trust, I could not be more proud or delighted that it will be the principal beneficiary of this exciting expedition – there are many young people who need our help the most who will benefit from the courage of Tom and his four intrepid colleagues."
The Commonwealth South Pole Centenary Expedition raised over £10,000 for the Prince’s Trust. It’s a real privilege to be involved with this wonderful organisation which makes a positive difference to the lives of so many young people. I continue to work raising funds and awareness for the Trust in my capacity as one of its official ambassadors. |

Whilst polar exploration is a long way from becoming an Olympic discipline, the team is proud and honoured to be promoting London's Olympic bid.
Sebastian Coe, Chairman of London 2012, said: "I wish Tom and his team all the very best for the expedition to the North Pole which will be an exciting and demanding challenge. It will be fantastic to see a London 2012 flag flying at the North Pole, and it will be fantastic to bring the world's most exciting event to London and the UK. Let's turn this dream into a reality and make it happen." |
